Cathedral Singers

The Cathedral Singers is an independent ensemble of professional singers resident in the Chicago area. Many of these singers participate in a wide range of musical activity, from early music performance to jazz and musical theater. Their collective experience and superb musicianship contribute to a unique interpretation of many styles of choral literature.

Founded in 1991, primarily as a recording ensemble, The Cathedral Singers have produced over twenty compact disc recordings under the direction of conductor and composer Richard Proulx. These recordings include the Ars Antiqua Choralis discs, five exquisite recordings of works from the old masters; Rare Beasts and Unique Adventures I and II, featuring the music of Richard Proulx; Catholic Latin Classics, Catholic Marian Classics, Christmas Classics, including many treasures of church music; and four collections of music from the Iona Community in Scotland. Selections from the Singers' recording, Sublime Chant, were featured in an episode of the NBC television drama "ER," and the entire chant recording is included in a New Earth Video, "Mount Shasta: Meeting of Heaven and Earth." More Sublime Chant is an extension of their first chant recording and delves further into the glorious sounds of our liturgical past. Two highly-acclaimed recordings of Baroque Music from the Bolivian Rain Forest have been distributed world-wide. Both recordings were featured in the January 2001 issue of Fanfare Magazine.

The Cathedral Singers have appeared with the Metropolis Symphony Orchestra, and have presented concerts in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Saint Louis, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Saint Paul, Indianapolis and Chicago.
